I suspect many of you have already started work on your justice essays and, therefore, many of you might be frustrated with the topic. I don't mean to be mean, but I hope so! Defining justice is a difficult task with no easy answers - that's what makes it fun.
If you do happen to be frustrated, here's a bit of encouragement I came across while reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment: "If you keep talking big nonsense, you will get to sense! ... Nobody ever got to a single truth without talking nonsense fourteen times first. Maybe even a hundred and fourteen" (202). When I read this, Dostoyevsky reminded me that I ought to warn you that your first draft - your first answer to the question "What is Justice?" - probably won't satisfy you. Don't panic! Somewhere between draft fourteen and draft one hundred and fourteen, I am sure you will find sense.
