    Sydney- I may be wrong, but I think ruse is more "playful" and stratagem is when your motives are to hurt.

  15. Sydney- Looking at the definitions, a stratagem is to deceive an enemy or to get ahead, like strategical, where a ruse is just a trick, even possibly playful.

    That said...

    Santa sneaks presents under many Christmas trees in a carefully designed ruse, allowing him to deliver to seven billion people in one night.
