Descriptive Essay
Due Wednesday, 6 Nov.
2019
Write a 750-1000 word descriptive essay modeled after one of
the three essays we’ve recently discussed:
- “In Praise of the Humble Comma,” by Pico Iyer
- “How it Feels to be Colored Me,” by Zora Neale Hurston
- “Island for Sale,” by Liz Prato
Your purpose is to use your powerful descriptive language to
communicate a purpose greater than describing this object. If you choose to
emulate Zora Neale Hurston, you may break your essay into sections (but you
don’t need to). If you choose to emulate Liz Prato, you may make any structural
or visual choices that capture the spirit of the essay as an advertisement (but
you don’t need to). No matter which essay you choose to emulate, you should
focus on descriptive writing.
This is a public document, which means it will be read by
people who are not your teacher.
Typed. MLA (unless your advertisement works better in a
different format).
